Windows Vista is now available as Release
November 30th, 2006 under Windows Vista, Vista pricing, Download Vista. [ Comments: none ]

The newest version of Microsoft’s Windows operating system, Vista, is now available - at least to business users.

The release of Vista is the first upgrade of the Microsoft Windows operating system since Windows XP was released about five years ago. Ballmer said that Vista and new applications related to it would help the company’s business customers communicate better and have easier access to wireless networks and corporate-information systems.

Microsoft Corp. Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer said on Thursday the software company would spend hundreds of millions of dollars to market Windows Vista, the new version of its operating system which debuted for businesses on Thursday. Ballmer said Vista would be the most widely marketed Microsoft product in the company’s history.

But even with all the touted improvements, analysts expect Vista to only gradually emerge - especially in big organizations where upgrading can be a costly, complicated affair.

Windows Vista comes with 11,700 drivers on DVD, so this OS has more drivers built-in at launch than any previous version Windows.

Compared to the 10,000 drivers available on the Windows XP disk when the OS shipped in October 2001, Vista’s DVD will have almost 10,000 more drivers—and at least 11,700 more online. XP only had 2,000 additional drivers available online when it went RTM. Read more »
